Raspberry Pi Host Adapter - RPI1

This is a small simple module to provide an easy means of connecting temperature sensors to the GPIO based 1-Wire driver on your Raspberry Pi. It is available to purchase in our online store.

It is a very simple PCB consisting of a header to connect to the GPIO connector on your Pi, a 4K7 resistor, a DS18B20 temperature sensor and an RJ45 socket and 3 pin screw terminal to allow you to connect your 1-Wire devices.

The RJ45 sockets allows you to connect the RPI1 to your 1-Wire network using standard Cat5 Ethernet cables without needing any tools. It is wired to the common standard as described on our wiring information page.

The screw terminals allow you to wire bare cables into the adapter if you prefer to make your connections that way.

Please note:

  • This adapter only provides 3.3V power to the sensor (as that is what the Raspberry Pi's GPIO runs at) and so it is only really suitable for temperature sensors. It will not work with our SWE3 humidity sensor or other similar devices that require 5V to work.

  • This adapter is only recommended for relatively short networks with a small number of sensors. We have tested it with 4 sensors and a total cable length of around 10m and it works fine at that but we recommend our RPI2 host adapter for anything much bigger.

  • This adapter will not work properly with parasitically powered sensors.

  • This adapter provides a direct connection to the GPIO port of your Raspberry Pi and as such any wiring faults could potentially damage your Pi.
